How do the decissant dehumidifiers operate?
Desiccant dehumidifiers use an absorbent material, usually Zeolite, that soaks up water vapour from the air, just like silica gel. The desiccant material is located in the wheel, that slowly rotates. The fan draws the air through that wheel, and the air dries. Moisture is extracted from the desiccant by heating a portion of the wheel not being used to dry the air. This transforms the water back into vapour, which is then passed over a cold plate to cool the mixture and cause the water to condense.
Desiccant dehumidifiers will work best in temperatures from 1℃ up to 40℃. They are also very practical and efficient with a very high capacity for water extraction.
How do compressor dehumidifiers operate?
Compressor dehumidifiers work best at higher temperatures, starting from 15℃. Note that tests are made in the temperature of about 30℃ and humidity level of 80%.
The performance of such dehumidifier tends to depend on environmental conditions, which is referred to as sensible capacity. Note that in the real working environment, the sensible performance of a compressor dehumidifier will be lower, that in the test environment.
What is the difference between the compressor and decissant boat dehumidifier?
The compressor dehumidifier works best at 15℃ or higher. The desiccant dehumidifier, on the other hand, can work at temperatures as low as 1℃. In case you plan to leave the boat dehumidifier without supervision for an extended period during winter, the desiccant dehumidifier is ideal for you. Ensure the dehumidifier has the automatic restart feature, in case the electricity is unstable.
What are the important features to look for in a boat dehumidifier?
The crucial features are the humidistat, automatic reset and a cut off switch. The automatic reset will turn the dehumidifier on when the power source comes back. The humidistat will make sure that your dehumidifier is working on an optimal level, and will turn off as soon as the humidity reaches the pre-set level. The cut-off switch will stop the operation of the dehumidifier, as soon as the water tank is full. There is also a light indicator of such an event that will turn on.

Frankly speaking, I am not a tech savvy and always have difficulties when I need to install any technology. This one was another story, tho. It has just one button. Put it where you need and switch it on haha. It is great for the closets, cupboards and all kind of small areas. But it couldn't operate effectively in a little bigger room. Not powerful enough for it

This unit turns on and off depending on the RH (relative humidity) level it detects. Turns on when the RH is 5 above, and turns off when it's 1 below the set point

This baby seems to be working well. I got it to replace my old one, and the results are great so far. Hopefully it will serve longer than a year, which seems to be a dangerous time for dehumidifiers. I attached a hose, which is a life saver, and I don't have to worry about emptying the bucket all the time

Love this product. I didn't know how to protect my collection of watches. Now, I am happy I can place this dehumidifier near it and forget about the mould and awful odour

I can definitely feel the difference. I had this thing running for about a week non stop and the result is more than satisfying, plus less strain on the AC. It pulls gallons of water a day
