How do the decissant dehumidifiers operate?
Desiccant dehumidifiers use an absorbent material, usually Zeolite, that soaks up water vapour from the air, just like silica gel. The desiccant material is located in the wheel, that slowly rotates. The fan draws the air through that wheel, and the air dries. Moisture is extracted from the desiccant by heating a portion of the wheel not being used to dry the air. This transforms the water back into vapour, which is then passed over a cold plate to cool the mixture and cause the water to condense.
Desiccant dehumidifiers will work best in temperatures from 1℃ up to 40℃. They are also very practical and efficient with a very high capacity for water extraction.
How do compressor dehumidifiers operate?
Compressor dehumidifiers work best at higher temperatures, starting from 15℃. Note that tests are made in the temperature of about 30℃ and humidity level of 80%.
The performance of such dehumidifier tends to depend on environmental conditions, which is referred to as sensible capacity. Note that in the real working environment, the sensible performance of a compressor dehumidifier will be lower, that in the test environment.
What is the difference between the compressor and decissant boat dehumidifier?
The compressor dehumidifier works best at 15℃ or higher. The desiccant dehumidifier, on the other hand, can work at temperatures as low as 1℃. In case you plan to leave the boat dehumidifier without supervision for an extended period during winter, the desiccant dehumidifier is ideal for you. Ensure the dehumidifier has the automatic restart feature, in case the electricity is unstable.
What are the important features to look for in a boat dehumidifier?
The crucial features are the humidistat, automatic reset and a cut off switch. The automatic reset will turn the dehumidifier on when the power source comes back. The humidistat will make sure that your dehumidifier is working on an optimal level, and will turn off as soon as the humidity reaches the pre-set level. The cut-off switch will stop the operation of the dehumidifier, as soon as the water tank is full. There is also a light indicator of such an event that will turn on.

Eco Air DC18 18 Litre has a great side effect, as it helps to dry the washing. But on a more serious note, it's not too noisy for me personally, although that is an individual. It has dried my kitchen and living room pretty well and dropped the humidity to a comfortable level. I have to empty the tank in the morning, if it has been working overnight.

The initial humidity level in the apartment was 58%, and this thing got it down to 35% in a matter of 24 hours. There's a lot more to be done in other rooms, but I do like where this is going! I'm going to try and use it as much as I can as there's a lot of moisture held up in the carpets and walls

I needed this unit for the damp basement and it's been running non stop for about a month now with no problems at all. It is quiet, it's easy to maintain and the water tank isn't too big for me. But it's very convenient to hook it up with a hose, so you can forget about the bucket and go about your business.

The were strange forms of life growing in the bathroom from all the humidity. Well, this unit really gets the job done and prevents mould everywhere, not just the bathroom. My house is really old, and I used to get mould even on the kitchen wall, no matter how much I cleaned it. This dehumidifier saved me a lot of trouble. Plus, it's easy to carry around the house. I usually keep it on at all times, just carry it from time to time, to change location. I would gladly give this device 5 stars, but there is a cosmetic flaw after a few months. The clear film on the panel peeled a little and now looks like a loose bit of cellophane. Not critical for the functionality, of course, but still not very happy about that.

The mobility was a huge deal for me as I'm not that quick to move around myself, but this unit proved to be light and easy to carry. I would recommend it, definitely.
